Disappointing day today as this morning brought news that Trollbeads will no longer allow Danish retailers to ship outside the EU. Effective Monday, July 1st, new contract terms dictate that dealers in Denmark will not be able to ship outside the EU, while they can still continue to service other parts of Europe. I’m extremely sad at this announcement mainly because of the effect it will have on US consumers, although this unfavorable to other markets as well. The US doesn’t get the best uniques to begin with and now that we won’t be able to tap the previously friendly Danish retailers, I can see how this is going to put a crick in many collectors’ necks.
Denmark especially seems to get the best uniques which is no surprise since that is the headquarters of Trollbeads and I am very upset at that we’ll no longer be able to shop there. It’s undisclosed just how much revenue overseas consumers generate for the Danish retailers but I’m sure the restriction will be felt on the business side as well. While this announcement is specified to Denmark, there’s no telling whether it’s going to be enforced on other countries as well, and I’m waiting with baited breath to see if that’s the case.
Pandora has had strict shipping restrictions and it looks like Trollbeads is following their lead though not in a good way. These restrictions regarding shipping is baffling to me and especially frustrating given their penchant for offering country-exclusive or specialty items. Perlen made the announcement this morning and to say thank you to their loyal international fans, they’re offering 25% on all the World Tour Beads today and of course, they will be taking orders through the weekend.
Personally, I’m immensely upset by this news, and I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts on the new restrictions and how it affects you. I’d love to see a lively discussion in the comments below.
