Trollbeads sets shipping restrictions on Danish retailers

trollbeads-logoDisappointing day today as this morning brought news that Trollbeads will no longer allow Danish retailers to ship outside the EU. Effective Monday, July 1st, new contract terms dictate that dealers in Denmark will not be able to ship outside the EU, while they can still continue to service other parts of Europe. I’m extremely sad at this announcement mainly because of the effect it will have on US consumers, although this unfavorable to other markets as well. The US doesn’t get the best uniques to begin with and now that we won’t be able to tap the previously friendly Danish retailers, I can see how this is going to put a crick in many collectors’ necks.

Denmark especially seems to get the best uniques which is no surprise since that is the headquarters of Trollbeads and I am very upset at that we’ll no longer be able to shop there. It’s undisclosed just how much revenue overseas consumers generate for the Danish retailers but I’m sure the restriction will be felt on the business side as well. While this announcement is specified to Denmark, there’s no telling whether it’s going to be enforced on other countries as well, and I’m waiting with baited breath to see if that’s the case.

Pandora has had strict shipping restrictions and it looks like Trollbeads is following their lead though not in a good way.  These restrictions regarding shipping is baffling to me and especially frustrating given their penchant for offering country-exclusive or specialty items.  Perlen made the announcement this morning and to say thank you to their loyal international fans, they’re offering 25% on all the World Tour Beads today and of course, they will be taking orders through the weekend.

Personally, I’m immensely upset by this news, and I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts on the new restrictions and how it affects you. I’d love to see a lively discussion in the comments below.

I have to say that I was thinking of starting a Trollbeads bracelet now that Perlen is no longer getting new shipments of Pandora. With this news I think I will go with Ohm. Very sad for both the US consumers and for companies like Perlen. 🙁

    • Leann

I know, this is very sad :(. I mean, it’s not like we’re without our own great dealers, but it was nice to be able to get special beads from overseas!

  • Pam Spano

Thank you for this! I just recently became enthralled with Trollbeads after winning a cuff bracelet with beads from Goldmine Trollbead Boutique.

I rushed over to Perlen’s and ordered three World Tour Beads. 😉

    • Leann

Which ones did you get? Glad you could take advantage of the discounts!

      • Pam Spano

I got the viking ship and two of the amber runes to go with my Dala Horse. The bracelet is in honor of my father who was born in Sweden. <3

      • Leann

Glad you could take advantage of the promo! Are you putting together a whole bracelet for your father?

  • Elise

I’m super disappointed as well. After the Pandora issue I was relying on Perlen for my new troll addiction (especially those great uniques!). Because of this I doubt my troll collection will be further expanded after I finish the bracelets I’m working on. I just placed my last troll order from Perlen 🙁

I’m also curious how trollbeads was able to enforce this? I thought there was some type of law in place for businesses in Denmark that didn’t allow restrictions like this to be placed? I must have got it wrong I guess.

    • Leann

I know, it’s very disappointing! My understanding is that they can’t legally force them to restrict the shipping but they can simply not agree to renew the stores’ contract if you don’t comply. Bit heavy handed and totally unfair!

  • Martha

Like everyone else outside the EU, I’m terrible disappointed by this news. I’ve just placed my last Trollbeads order with Perlen-the Happy Summer Kit. I will concentrate on Redbalifrog from now on.

    • Leann

It’s a great kit, you’ll enjoy it, I’m sure :). But yes, very disappointed. 🙁

  • Nazdhia

The saddest part is that Perlen will loose a lot revenue, they have been hit hard, first with Pandora and now Trollbeads. They are an amazing shop, great costumer service.

    • Leann

I know! I’ve noticed that they’ve added quite a few new companies to the store, so maybe it’s time to add more brands to the blog ;).

  • Morgan

I’m really upset by this, me and my best friend always get each other random charm/bead presents from Pandora and Troll Beads, and no it looks like well just have to stick to pandora, sad I just spent $100 on my first troll bracelet.

Will remember to spend plenty of $$$ on my trip to Denmark this December.

    • Leann

Me too. That is really sweet of you and your friend! There are still other retailers, especially in the US that will ship overseas. I just hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come!

  • Tam

This type of price control and price fixing that drives me crazy. There will be lost of customers for sure. It’s not like I would fork out the money now to buy local anymore since it means I pay 25-30% more after factoring our taxes. I will finish up this Trollbeads bracelet with Perlens and probably will start a redbalifrog later.

    • Leann

I agree, it’s so frustrating not to have all the choices available. And it’s just not having to pay more, it’s the fact that are less selection here too :/.

  • Elyse

I was just about to pull the trigger on starting my journey into Trollbeads via Perlen but this gives me pause. The disappointment I felt over Perlen loosing Pandora was enough and I did switch to buying redbalifrog from Perlen -maybe for me this is a sign to not bother getting starting with Trollbeads -ok I know I’m sounding a bit whiney now but I’d have to drive almost an hour to the nearest trollbead source since The Paper Stores around me now only sell Toll in a set b’let -no thanks I want to create my own.

    • Leann

My nearest Trollbeads dealers barely have anything, it’s so disappointing! I definitely depend on webstores to order my Trollbeads, there’s no way I could have a great selection like this any other way.

  • jae

I , also, am upset with this news-I had just started a trollbeads bracelet-Guess I will call it done now-And what is up with Perlen & Pandora? I noticed they didn’t have anything new for a long time, but has something changed that I haven’t heard about?

    • Leann

Hi Jae, Pandora canceled their contract with Perlen a while ago. They were stocked through Mother’s Day collection but that’s it :(.
