Trollbeads Giant Carved Amber Arrive in US

Trollbeads unique amber beads have always been highly desired by Trollies and none more so than the extremely rare and coveted carved ambers.  A couple weeks ago, just a batch were released in Germany with motifs such as ladybugs, fish, scarabs, turtles, and roses.  These disappeared within hours, if not minutes, and I’ve been hoping ever since that they would appear in the US.  Well, my wish came true and US retailers have started to receive the extra large versions of these beads!  Only a handful of stores are going to be getting these and then just 5 each, making them incredibly rare.  The photos are by Trollbeads NYC where they’ve just received them today.

Before now, the carved ambers were virtually non-existent and were gifted to a few select retail owners by Lise Aagaard.  The new German ones are regular sized amber beads, whereas the ones that US retailers are receiving is giant sized (although it’s rumored that they’ll also be getting the regular sized ones in the near future). More stores will be posting them for sale in the coming days, including Trollbead Boutique, who will be listing their 5 giant carved ambers tomorrow on Facebook!  Since it’s such a limited number, they are also taking names for a request list in the event they receive more.  Keep in mind that due to their rarity and size, they’re priced at $275.  Do these appeal to you?  Are you hoping to get one?

I love amber jewelry, but these just don’t appeal to me. Maybe it is because I think they are just too big, and they have a strange focal point quality. A few actually look “junky”. The price is just silly too. Maybe I’d like a regular size more and different subjects, like more flowers or something.

    • Leann

They are definitely focal pieces. I’ve never been a huge fan of the TB amber beads, but for some reason these just speak to me, haha. I got the big rose in the picture, I’m so excited! 🙂

The price is a bit rediculous. Pure gold wouldn’t be much more expensive.

    • FairObjective

Laura…I was thinking the same thing about the prices: they seem greatly inflated. Admittedly, though, I don’t know the literal, monetary worth of either amber itself (just the material), or beads made out of it. Still seems pretty steep – though some of these designs are beautiful and really appeal to me. I do think the “regular” sized ambers would be a better place for me, personally, to start, though. I guess most products and services have a “worth” that’s determined by demand; maybe prices would stay more reasonable if collectors would pass on these high numbers. I definitely can’t justify to myself spending that much on one bead – not even close. Take care…Kim

That’s so true Kim – it’s just supply and demand, and I guess people will pay the prices for the simple fact that they’re “rare”, even if they have very little intrinsic value. I enjoy silver and gold charm jewelry because not only is it cute/pretty, it actually has value as well. I’d pay more for a charm that had extras in terms of value – two tone, more silver, etc – but not more for a charm just because it’s rare. I know there’s some diehard collectors that will pay the price though – and I’d love to see what a $275 amber charm looks like, so if anyone purchases, please post a live shot! 🙂

      • Leann

It is a lot, Kim. But Trollbead collectors pay a lot for rare pieces. These are selling out, even at this price point! :O

    • Leann

You’d be surprised at what people pay for rare beads :).

  • Michelle

I love them, but think the price is a bit steep. I just keep thinking of how many “regular” beads that I could buy with that!

    • Leann

Yes for sure! I hope for this price, it is actually limited!

  • CarolinaWings

Pretty, but the price seems astounding! I wonder what a jewelry appraiser would say, is it possible they really are worth that much?

    • Leann

It’s worth what people are willing to pay for it. The one other carved amber I’ve seen sold before went upwards of $800! :O

      • CarolinaWings

Wow, definitely food for thought, thanks Leann!

  • jae

They weren’t anywhere near this price on another site so it’s a no for me

    • Leann

These are a different size – the German ones are much smaller. I think those were €90?

  • Kari

LeAnn, I was not able to see any of these listed on the sites I saw mentioned today. Did you see them ‘go live’? If so, could you post a link please?

    • Leann

Hi Kari, Trollbead Boutique hasn’t posted them up yet. Here’s a listing from Southern Park Trollbeads which is a kiosk store: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=837363229637836&id=217125888328243. They’re doing it raffle style, so just put your name down on the design you like.

Hartwell House have some too: https://www.facebook.com/HartwellHousePomeroy, I think they’re still available.

Which design are you looking for? 🙂

      • Kari

The fish or possibly ladybug….but I like the fish better. Do you know of anyone else who may have them? Links helpfull….thanks!!

      • Leann

You should check Facebook. Lots of stores post their uniques there :).

      • Kari

I was able to get one, the fist that I wanted along with the World Tour Iron Wolf that I’ve been waiting to get my hands on!!! So excited, I can’t wait to receive them! Thanks for your help!

      • Leann

Wow, fabulous!! I’m so glad you got one, which design did you snag?

      • Kari

        The fish!

  • Lynn

Hi LeAnn I would love to get my hands on one. Will you be able to help to on forward the mail to me as I am in Singapore? I am so jealous you got the Rose! It’s beautiful!

    • Leann

Most of the retailers will ship overseas. Do you have one reserved? You can use the contact form to get in touch. 🙂

  • Michelle

Leann, I am excited to say that I my Local TB retailer was able to get in 3 of the regular sized carved amber. I selected the fish !! (my hubby is a major angler) I was able to justify the $110 (in my mind anyway). Glad that I made the purchase. I really love it.

    • Leann

Wow, you lucky duck! The smaller ambers are more doable and the fish is beautiful. What a great way to represent your hubby! 🙂

  • Elles Jackson

Ooh Leann if you ever decide to sell please email me! Spintijger@gmail.com
I know it is not nice to ask but the rose means so much to me 😉

    • Leann

      🙂 It’s a gorgeous piece!
