Story by Kranz & Ziegler has long been one of my favorite brands and my go to for leather bracelets. Unfortunately, there has been quite the upheaval in the company and bad news for the US market specifically. Following the Las Vegas JCK trade show last year, I found out that the US distributor rights – had been transferred fromLovelinks America to the same company that operates Mi Moneda for the US. Later in the year, Story by Kranz & Ziegler had withdrawn from the US altogether and retailers here no longer are receiving new products. This was devastating news and added to that, the main designer and founder of the company, Mads Ziegler has also left the company which brings into question the future of this brand.
It is reported that Story overextended itself by expanding too quickly into other markets, so now they are only concentrating in Denmark and Sweden, though their UK retailers will still be supported. Last month, their parent company, By Aagaard’s assets (no relation to the Aagaards of Trollbeads) were sold off to avoid bankruptcy. The Story Spring/Summer 2015 Collection just released in Denmark and presumably the last collection that Mads Ziegler designed.
It’s a smaller collection overall but still introduces incredible new bracelets including more colors in snakeskin, lambskin, silk, and gemstones. I am particularly interested in the pearl bracelets as those are super versatile and classy, although they cannot be worn with any charms. The leather colors of purple/pink and blue remind me more of autumn than spring but gorgeous nonetheless. The buttons and charms are mostly available in all finishes including rose gold plated, gold plated, rhodium plated, and silver, with my favorite being the tube charms.
There is also a new concept that has come out recently by this brand and again, designed by Mads before his departure and I’ll post more on that soon. I am curious at the direction of this company as it brings on new creatives and focuses on their key market, especially with competitors now offerings similar products. What do you think of this news? Are you sad to see Story pull out of the US?
