Pandora Upcoming 2014 Second Retirement

pandora-second-retirement-2014I’ve gotten quite a few inquiries regarding an upcoming Pandora retirement, and I’ve come across a list of rumored charms that are on the chopping block courtesy of a friend.  This isn’t an official list, but apparently these pieces have already been retired in other countries, even though it hasn’t been announced in the US or Canada yet.  As has been the trend for the past couple of years, this is a huge number of pieces but given the amount of releases coming out it’s not unexpected.

Just a few gold and two-tones, and I’m just glad that there’s not more of these that are going to be discontinued.  The main focus seems to be on silver charms and dangles, with another large number of Muranos heading out of the collection too.  I wish that Pandora would release more complex glass designs to provide more of a selection since they’ve been discontinuing their glass at an aggressive pace.  I’m surprised that all the smooth triple wrap leathers are being retired, since only the teal was supposed to be limited edition, but with the initial flaking problems that were reported I guess it makes sense.

Which pieces are you most sad to see go?  Anything here that’s already on your wish list?

  • Kaye Knkaye

Surprised to see White Mystic in the list..

    • Leann

They’re been retiring all the gold muranos. I’m not surprised if there won’t be any left :/.

  • Kaye Knkaye

And why is Dad retiring too? i hope not..

    • Leann

I don’t think it sells well.

  • Martha

What on earth? It’s like half of my collection is retiring! I’m feeling old.

    • Leann

Aww, it’s funny – I’ve been writing about Pandora long enough that I see charms I was previewing as a sneak peek now retiring. :/

  • Becky Bella

This is absurd! Too many spacers and too many muranos on that list.

    • bakersdozen12

I agree about the muranos. Some of those are so pretty, I don’t see how they could possible not sell.

      • Leann

They really need to come out with a new glass collection. Just all glass! Lol. They could do with some complex designs.

    • Leann

      Yes…way too many :(.

  • Kathryn Olson

Tempted to go some of the vintage floral black spacers even though I have no idea where I’m going to put them yet… Too beautiful to pass up 🙁 Glad the purple one isn’t retiring yet!

    • Leann

Haha, no need to rush. This hasn’t even been officially announced yet so it’s not likely to be pulled for months.

  • Charlene Thewlis

Really wanted the dad one but its out of my price range at the mo. Cany believe the pony is going, need to get that soon as its m hubby to be’s nickname! Lol! Guna be spending quite Alot soon too as im going on my honeymoon on a Thomson flight and their travel set contains the camera, plane and the travel exclusive suitcase which I want. But thats £79 too! I also want to upgrade my leather to a silver bracelet as im getting quite a few now and the pink leather is getting all marked. On a good note, its my birthday tomorrow and I have a sneaky feeling I may get some charms! Woo hoo! I will let you know which ones I get, if any lol x

    • Leann

There’s no rush and I’m sure the UK will have sales on the discontinued items too. Happy birthday! I hope you get lots of special treats :).

      • Joanne

I wish they had sales on discontinued items here in the US 🙁

      • Tracy

Joanne, they do sell retired items at the outlet stores, which will also ship most items. Rue la la (online store) also has sales in the US on retired charms 🙂

      • Joanne

Oh wow thanks! I didn’t even know pandora had outlets. I’ll have to look that up.

      • Leann

They do, usually on Rue La La.

      • Joanne

Rue La La isn’t continuous correct? I’ve checked on there a few times and haven’t seen anything Pandora.

      • Leann

No, usually it’s only 5 days or so.

  • Stacy McCowen

Whew! As a Pandora retailer, I am soooo excited about so many of these!! 90% of these on the list don’t sell! There are so many beautiful new charms in the last year, that these just set there. YaY!!!

    • Kaye Knkaye

Good to know that this move favours retailers 😀

      • Melissa Hogan

It actually favors Pandora itself. If the stores are not selling the product they do not order more from Pandora and that is where they make their money.

      • Kaye Knkaye

        absolutely 🙂

      • Leann

        Good point ;).

    • Leann

That’s good to hear, Stacy! 🙂

  • bakersdozen12

They are retiring the pretzel dangle already?! It just came out not that long ago!

    • Leann

I know…crazy right? I never did understand that one, lol.

  • Amalia J

I have a lot of these- thankfully- but what bothers me is some of these are classic- clock, birdie, and I loved the old Christmas ones- sleigh, snowman, poinsettia… But they’ll probably get replaced with something tacky. I hope at least this years christmas release will be nice.

    • Leann

Yes, I’m really surprised that they’re retiring so many of the classic (and cheaper) silver charms. Really sad! I love the perfect posies, it was my first charm.

  • Kerrie

I hope it’s just a rumour that they’re retiring the bird. I used to have a pet parrot & I keep waiting for Pandora to release a parrot charm, but I’ve always considered the bird charm to be a back up in case they never make one. I don’t want to make a rash, panicked purchase “just in case” they never make what I want. I’m also concerned about the number of muranos that they’re (potentially) retiring. It seems like they’re retiring more muranos than they’re producing.

    • Maya

I am a bird/parrot lover and I would love a parrot charm (two-toned with gold beak and feet would be so cute!!)… the Happy Little Bird is my first and, still, favorite charm. I actually have seven of them, four of them on my “bird” bracelet. Two represent my lovebirds that have passed in ’09 and ’12, and two represent my two current Poicephalus. I have three extras in my jewelry box for just in case I ever adopt anymore in the far future.

      • Leann

WOW!! You sure do love birds :D. That is so cool. I was surprised at how many bird charms that Pandora actually has. I managed to make an entire “winged creatures” bracelet recently :).

      • Angie

The bird is already marked as retired (with very limited existences) on the PandoraMOA website…

    • Leann

Well, you’ll have plenty of time even if they retire it. Plus, there’s plenty to find on the secondary market too. No worries!

  • Meg

I may have to get the purple dogwood clip. I’ve actually had it on my “wish list” for some time but never bought it because I could never really figure out what I’d do with it, but if it is retiring I might need to just stop waffling and get one. Maybe I’ll try it on my bangle.

    • Leann

It would be perfect on a bangle or the clip bracelets ;).

  • Charlene Thewlis

Just opened my birthday pandora bag and my partner got me the little bride and groom as we get married next month, and the family charm from the kids! I love them! Now just need the discontinued pony! I defo have to upgrade to a silver bracelet now as my leather is getting tight x

    • Leann

Very nice! Be careful with the leather bracelets – they’re only recommended to have 7-9 charms on them :). You can’t go wrong with the silver.

  • Courtney-Joy

Crap! I’ve been wanting the white cala charm for ages! I’m going to have to get it ASAP!

    • Leann

No need to rush, it might be months until they’re actually discontinued ;).

  • Vanessaqq

Glad to see that none of my Pandora charms are on the list. Neither interested in none of them. Good for me and my wallet!

    • Leann

      Good indeed! 😉

  • Sharyn

When do you think Rue la la will have the first round available? I’m so anxious!

    • Leann

      No idea. I hope soon!

  • Jess

I noticed the 14k constellation bead is on the list but only the garnet is pictured, do you know if the onyx is also retiring?

    • Leann

      Just what’s shown here.

  • PurdyfulJen

I hope they come up with new safety chains. The one with the gold hearts is too played out with the two tone bracelet

    • Leann

I totally agree. They definitely need more safety chains!

  • FairObjective

Hi Leann…I *love* the wood beads; can think of so many ways to use them. I don’t know why I haven’t noticed these before; I would have collected them. Take care…Kim

    • Leann

Still not too late ;). I’m sure they’ll be on sale somewhere.

  • Courtney Williams Tessaro

Any word on Fall collection yet? I am dying over here! 🙂

    • Leann

I’ll post it on my blog if I find anything.

  • Angie

Looks like your list is right. Some of these charms are already marked as retired at a seller’s website… Gee, my wallet’s in trouble :S

    • Leann

:/. Are there lots you want on the list?

      • Angie

Not too many, but I just started collecting last Christmas and am on a budget (is there such a thing as a Pandora collector on a budget?)… 😉

      • Leann

LOL. More like budget buster ;). It’s hard to stick to one!

  • Ania

I’m really surprised to see on the list the fan dangle, the black/gold flower murano and the pink charm thats in the picture with the sleigh. Those haven’t been in the collection that long. I wonder if the Onyx constellation charm will retire with the Rhodolite one. I would have thought the Rhodolite would have been more popular than the Onyx. Pink and purple are popular colors. Its sad to see more spacers going.

    • Leann

Yes, they haven’t been around that long but I guess they’re not big sellers. 🙁

  • Bonnie May

At first I was shocked by some of the newer items on the list, but the comment below from a Pandora retailer definitely explains it. If they are items that don’t sell why let them linger? And while it’s disappointing to see some of the older ones going I guess I understand. Especially with how detailed & complex the newer designs are, a lot of the older ones do look very “primitive” next to them. At the same time, that was Pandora’s original look… Only thing on this list I’ll have to get once it’s officially announced as a retiree (if only I had the patience to wait & hope to get it on sale at Rue) is the Palm trees. It’s been on my wishlist forever!

    • Leann

Yes, that is definitely their objective. They’re releasing so much now that they have to make room, but I’m sad that they’re getting rid of all the more affordable silver charms. The Palm Trees is a must and I got it for having my wedding in Hawaii. 🙂

  • Natalie Ast

ahh! not the pretzel. all of these charms are really beautiful, it’s sad to see them go. i recently bought the fleur de lis dangle for my sister who’s living in France, I might pick up the same to commemorate la Belle Province of Quebec!

    • Leann

Yes, it’s been a quick run for the pretzel :(. I hope you’ll be able to get it before it’s gone!

  • teresa

I almost have all of the ladybug murano’s. I need the red and lavendar ones and see they are on the possible retirement list. I hope to pick these ones up soon 🙂

    • Leann

Yes, get them before they’re gone :).

  • stargirl_82

I’ve been working at a jewellery shop for around 18 months and was surprised to see some newish charms going in the retired list! I’ve managed to nab myself the bird and clock before they disappear forever… A lot of these we were sad to see going as they are classics that people always like. I hope that more ‘plain’ silver are released, not just more pave and enamels.

    • Leann

I completely agree. It’s sad that all the silver charms are being retired, especially since they’re at the lower price point.

  • Monica

I work at a Pandora store. There was an extended list released today of beads being retired. If anyone is making a black & white bracelet head to the store 95% of the black beads are being retired!
