Pandora New Smooth Leather Bracelets

pandora-summer-2013-leathers-coverAlong with the summer collection comes a new line of smooth leather bracelets in 5 different shades. The release for A Tale of the Sea is June 15th for North America and June 3rd for the UK. The new leathers are triple wrapped and come in 3 sizes: 20.7″, 22.4″, 24.2″ (52.5 cm, 57cm, 61.5cm, respectively) and the cost is $55USD. The colors of these bracelets have been named, although based on what I’m not sure, and also have corresponding rings to match (more on that later ;)). The bracelets feature a barrel lock, the same as the new bangle which resembles the Loving Pandora clips.

I was hoping that these would be thicker so that the charms would stay put once placed on the bracelet like the ones from Story by Kranz and Ziegler, but sadly I do not think that is the case. These will require the clips and Pandora silicone U-stoppers to keep charms in place. I haven’t been a big fan of Pandora leather bracelets, given how easily they show wear and decreased usability because they can only hold 7-9 charms, so I am excited to see how functional these bracelets are.  I got a first hand look at the bracelet during the Grand Opening of the Pandora Flagship Store last week, and it seems fantastic!

The first color that caught my eye is the teal leather, pictured above, but I am pretty set on using a bangle for my new teal/aquatic themed bracelet. The red is a close second being such a vibrant shade as well. Purple and black would be good picks, but I’ve heard not so flattering things about the brown regarding the leather flaking off. I haven’t quite decided on whether to buy one of these yet, I will have to wait and see. What are your thoughts on the new smooth leather bracelets?  Are they that much different than the braided leather bracelets?

  • Martha

The teal one interests me, but I think I’ll have to wait to see it in person. I have several of the old Pandora leather bracelets and don’t wear any charms on them at all as it drives me batty how they move around so much and I don’t like fussing with the u-stoppers.
I’m currently loving my Trollbeads leather bracelet because I find charms don’t move around nearly as much, due to the way the leather is a squarish cut.

I’m not a fan of Pandora leathers either, Martha. I’m not quite sure what the point is for these smooth leathers if the charms are just going to be falling all over the place. I’d prefer a thicker leather bracelet so the charms stay put! I like the Trollbeads leather for that same reason, but I keep hearing that they stretch out very quickly so I haven’t worn mine a lot.

i love the teal one and my daughter’s color for her wedding is teal so hoping to get that one wish it were single though

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

The teal is definitely the most eye catching!

      • http://slen35@hotmail.com nelia almeida

i think so too, can’t wait to get it

      • http://slen35@hotmail.com nelia almeida

also a little concerned how to keep the 3 close together, not sure how it will look as i like more the simple ones which it were a single instead

      • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

I don’t think it’ll separate, the leathers generally stick together especially if you get a tighter size. 🙂

      • http://slen35@hotmail.com nelia almeida

        thanks Leann, good to know

That’s what I’m afraid of too, the moving around on the leather. Don’t have a leather one yet but am in love with the ‘old’ pink one and this teal colour…. Hmmm… what to do…. Single ones seems to be the best choice I heard but still….
Am very curious to see the new leathers in real though!!

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

I wish they came out with more new colors; teal is the only color that isn’t represented with their current leathers. I will have to reserve judgement for these too! 🙂

  • Heidi

My friend and I both have used various materials to push into the beads on the leathers so as to make them stable in one place. We have used a rubber band cutting a small piece and we have used those black pandora silicone rings that go under clips. ( cut pieces) We gently poke them into the bead using a paperclip unfolded or tooth pick. It has not damaged the leather and our beads stay in one place and the rubber does not show.

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Wow, that’s a lot of work! I just got a bunch of the u-stoppers from my store so maybe I’ll experiment. I’ve never worn my leathers much though :/.

      • Ashley

My mom wears the double leather bracelet and got tired of her charms flailing around so she tied a single knot on the side-top of the bracelet and the charms stay put! It looks really cute. When she was explaining the process to me I was thinking nuh-ugh, but it totally got the job done, looks unique! 🙂

      • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

I’m curious as to what that looks like, Ashley! How did she tie a knot without destroying the bracelet? Very interesting :).

  • Nichole

I’ve been waiting for Pandora to release a triple brown leather bracelet. I’m disappointed to hear the flaking. The teal leather looks great, though. I may have to reserve judgement until I see them all in person. I’m still excited for the summer collection! 🙂 Thanks for always keeping us updated Leann.

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

You are so welcome, Nichole! I was wanting the brown as well until I heard about the problem. It’ll be interesting to see in person :).

  • Stephanie

    Hi ladies,
It’s so much fun to share all the excitement for the spring/summer line. I really would like to see the new leather bracelet in a nice denim/ navy blue. Hopefully they will add a few more colours by the end of the year.
Leann, I have a question about the troll bead leathers. You mention that the beads have a nice tight fit to them. Does this not eat into the leather and damage the bracelet?

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Not at all, Stephanie. They’re snug but do not cut into the leather, so you can still move the beads around. Not all the cores are exactly the same, I’ve got beads where the cores are the tiniest bit larger and they float around on the bracelet, another bead’s core is barely smaller than normal and won’t fit over the silver shaft of the hoop. But when the bracelet stretches out, the beads won’t fit so snugly anymore :(.

  • Kelly

I don’t like the look of these! They look like pony tail holders and cheapen the look of the charms. Can’t wait to see bangles though!

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Maybe they’ll look better in person? I haven’t had much use for the leathers and don’t think I’ll use this one much either!

  • Elyse

    Great info once again!
I only have one leather from the Oct 2012 promo so it was a free pink single one. I’m not much on pink but have worn it here and there. I like the braided look to the newer smooth ones. I’m not much into the double/triple look but have thought I might like to get a few more single leathers. Then I recently noticed my pink one is dirty looking. Although I clean my charms pretty regularly (use a Q-tip for the insides) there are black smudges on the leather which turns me off (certainly to any lighter colors that would show dirt too easily).

I do love the teal color though!

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Yikes! That’s another reason why I’m not a fan of the Pandora leathers, they get dirty so easily and can’t really be cleaned. So it’ll be interesting to see how functional these bracelets are.

  • Debbie

I have never bought Pandora leather bracelets as I’ve heard they don’t wear well, and I know the charms moving about would drive me potty!

That said, I do like the teal smooth leather one, and I will probably get it to wear with my teal / turquoise silver bracelet and keep the leather one free of charms. I think a leather and a silver bracelet might look quite nice together 🙂

Leann – any idea how they arrived at the names? Not sure why teal = balance! I think I better think about the red bracelet as well as I certainly could do with some extra energy LOL 😉

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Oooh, that’s a great idea. I should stack my leathers too! I think that would look stunning with the teal bracelets. The way that the charms move around drives me crazy as well; I know there are the U stoppers, but I don’t want to buy more clips if I don’t have to ;). I wish they would have made the leather slightly thicker so that the charms would sit tight. I think this was the perfect opportunity to revamp their bracelets but no…just more of the same except with a new clasp :/. I have absolutely no idea how they arrived at those names, lol. If only they could impart their names onto the wearer! 😉

  • Ashley

Like all u have said, I’m going to just have to wait and see this one in person! Having so many of the braided leather bracelets myself, I’m not all that excited for this particular bracelet. It’s like, been there done that. 🙂
But, I have to admit the teal colored bracelet looks very pretty. Turquoise is one of my fave color’s!!

What a good idea Debbie, wear the bracelet w/o charms! It’s got the cute-as-can-be barrel lock, hmmmm…..

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

The teal is definitely the stand out! It would be stunning with the new teal charms or you’re right, all by itself ;). I do like the clasp, but I’m much more excited for the bangle!

  • Samantha

    Hey Leann,

I’m really curious about the photos with the cherry blossoms muranos. Are they selling them in black cherry blossom as well?

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

They’re not called black cherry blossoms, just blossom Muranos coming out with the summer collection. 🙂

  • Jeanne

I love the teal color, but I’m not much of a fan of the smooth leather. I like the look of a braided leather bracelet (whether Pandora or not), so I’m not sure I’ll like these. Especially since the charms still travel around. I agree with Kelly that they look like pony tail holders!

I would rather spend the money on more beads!

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

I tend to agree with you, Jeanne. Not worth the money? 😉

The first thing I thought when I saw the new smooth bracelets is, how well is the leather going to wear and will it show scratches like new smooth leather shoes and purses do? I really love the look of these a lot more than the woven ones, but I don’t want them to look tattered either. I’m going to hold off for a bit after they’ve been released and see what ladies thoughts are on them.

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

I agree with you Carin. From the couple I’ve seen, they do flake after use which is why I’ve been so hesitant about these so far. I hope I’m wrong!

  • Amy burrows

I’m looking forward to getting this…as I’ve ordered it through a friend these bracelets are limited addition but I’m hoping there better than my purple single bracelet as had a bit of problem at 1st getting certain charms to fit! Love the new charms however

    • http://charmsaddict.com Leann

Hi Amy, these bracelets are not limited edition – I’m not sure where you heard that? They’re a regular addition to the brand.

  • Amalia J

Great review! I’ve never bought a leather – I don’t like them, but I was going to get the tael until I read this (and the comments)…. Probably best to just get another silver 😉

    • Leann

Silver is always my go to bracelet. 🙂
